The Princess Royal visited London South Bank Technical College on Thursday 22nd February to meet students, staff and industry partners of the college.
The Princess Royal met students in three areas of the college during her visit:
- Dental Technology Laboratory where Her Royal Highness met London South Bank Technical College students learning advanced dental skills in a purpose-built laboratory
- In the Green Skills Workshop Her Royal Highness met London South Bank Technical College apprentices who just qualified for electric vehicle charging installation (the first in England)
- At the Lee Marley Academy on the ground floor of the college, Her Royal Highness met Lee Marley Academy apprentices who study at London South Bank Technical College and viewed demonstrations of bricklaying by the students.
The Princess Royal unveiled a plaque to commemorate her visit, on the ground floor of London South Bank Technical College.
Millie Doyle, a Lee Marley Academy Level 2 Bricklaying Standard apprentice, who met The Princess Royal said, “It was really great to have this opportunity to meet someone in the Royal Family at London South Bank Technical College. It was brilliant to meet The Princess Royal as a female apprentice at Lee Marley Academy as the number of women in the bricklaying trade increases."
The £100million London South Bank Technical College in Nine Elms teaches advanced technical skills to over 2,000 students through courses including construction, robotics and healthcare, in state-of-the-art facilities. London South Bank Technical College is part of LSBU Group, a unique and growing partnership of secondary, further and higher education providers in south London. LSBU Group was created in 2019 after London South Bank University oversaw the first merger of its kind between a university and college.
Professor David Phoenix, Chief Executive Officer of LSBU Group, Fiona Morey, Executive Principal, South Bank Colleges, Wayne Wright, Principal of London South Bank Technical College and Lee Marley, Chief Executive Officer, Lee Marley Group accompanied The Princess Royal during her visit to London South Bank Technical College.
