Our Level 2 and Level 3 Foundation Business students had the incredible opportunity to visit Mitie’s headquarters at The Shard for an inspiring Industry Day. The visit provided students with valuable insights into the corporate world and the diverse career paths within Mitie.
The day began with a warm welcome, including tea and refreshments, followed by a guided tour of Mitie’s eco-friendly and innovative office spaces led by our host, Elle. Students learned about Mitie’s commitment to sustainability and how it integrates into their operations.
A key part of the day was a presentation on Mitie’s core values, services, and its vital partnership with our college. Students were introduced to the wide range of roles available within the company, emphasising the diverse opportunities in business.
Nine inspiring industry professionals from various roles at Mitie shared their career journeys, discussing challenges, successes, and practical advice for students aspiring to follow in their footsteps. These sessions opened students’ eyes to roles and opportunities they hadn’t previously considered, sparking excitement about their future careers.
To build teamwork skills, students participated in a fun and interactive marshmallow challenge, where they worked in groups to construct stable towers using spaghetti straws and marshmallows. This activity highlighted the importance of collaboration, structured planning, and effective communication in the workplace.
The day concluded with a carousel-style networking session, where students engaged in personal conversations with the professionals. They were able to ask questions, gain further insights, and understand what it takes to thrive in the industry.
Mitie also presented their apprenticeship opportunities, helping students visualise potential career pathways and how they could progress within the organisation.
Our students described the day as truly invaluable, leaving with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and practical advice for their futures. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mitie for hosting us and providing such a fantastic opportunity to explore careers in business and beyond.
