The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design is an advanced, in-depth qualification that will develop the knowledge, creative skills, and understanding you will need to progress to further study and Higher Education or prepare you for a rewarding career in a number of creative art and design-based roles.
This is a two-year programme and is the equivalent of 3 A Levels. It is a diagnostic study programme where you can choose and create your portfolio towards a specialist Creative Industry area of practice.
Through practical learning and immersive study, you will explore a variety of creative techniques, processes, skills, and materials, to enhance your ability to capture and express your ideas visually. You will develop skills including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, 3D model making, sculpting, casting and ceramics, time-based media including photography, film, digital imagery and animation, as well as performance art.
More than just developing your creative and artistic skills, you will also gain a deeper understanding of the theories and principles of art and design. These can include research methodology, expression of thought, historical context, justification of concept, critical awareness, how to explore media, and how to finish and present your work. You will also receive an overview of your opportunities for progression in the world of art and design.
You will work towards building a portfolio of work, and especially during the first term of the second year create a portfolio of work relevant to application through UCAS for your specific chosen Creative Industry area of specialist practice.
Students each year successfully go on to study university courses to study; Fine Art, Illustration and Graphic Design, Interior and Spatial Design, Architecture, Set-Design, Concept Art for film and Games Design. This list is not exhaustive.

What do you need to apply?
- 5 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language
- Level 2 vocational qualification at a good pass
- Level 2 or GCSE English and Maths
Additional information: You will have a review of your portfolio and ideally show some success in the subject area.

You will be assessed by a combination of assignments, course work, observation of practical workshops, and a final project.
