This course focuses on the fundamentals of the performers' craft, and will develop your knowledge, improve your skills, and increase your abilities in performing arts as a collaborative activity.

Through collaborative learning and immersive study, you will explore how to use your body and voice in performance; learn to entertain and inform your audience; engage with elements of design and technology; and develop an understanding of the key principles and processes of performances and production.

This Level 2 Diploma will develop your skills in the following areas:

• Drama

You will explore a wide array of acting styles, approaches, methods and techniques. You will also learn about the use of voice and vocal manipulation, movement, text and dialogue, mask design, and music.This part of the programme is designed to enable you to become powerful and independent as performers, in order to make informed decisions about character building and interpretation for performance.

• Dance

Here you will have the opportunity to focus on specific types of dance, and will learn how to integrate new techniques and styles into your specialist artform, including an exploration of influential choreographic works by renowned creators. You will experience and enjoy movement techniques, creative processes, improvisation, composition, and creation tasks for stage and screen performances, and be given the opportunity to learn, practice and master a variety of dance styles and techniques - which will provide you with the tools to develop and express your dance potential. You will also explore the functions and movements of your body that are important to dance training.

• Production

Great performances are not made by the stage or screen performers alone; they require a team of trained professionals working behind the scenes. So, throughout the course, you will not only be performing physically, but you will also be responsible for production. You will gain knowledge of design for performance, develop the skills to implement lighting and sound, learn how to operate equipment, explore stage management, and have the opportunity to direct performances.

• Contextual studies

More than just developing your technical skills, this part of the course will deepen your knowledge of the theories and principles of performing arts, and increase your understanding of the industry as a whole. You will learn about professional standards, contextual research methodology, and the expectations of the professional world of performance and production.
